Here's a strategy that would have significant total cost, but go easier on the Heroes that have reason to be "cross-training": 1. First you must buy the two skills of the basice curiculum: 10 Exp each (unless you have them already) + the role-playing to find a teacher. The teacher may end up being your swordsmanship instructor... 2. Finding an instructor. Pure role-playeing challenge. 3. Now your training begins. You must grasp the basics of the of the style. You must buy seperately the ability to advance in the swordsman knacks. This does not mean you get a 1, it means you may now start advancing the knack. This is the first stage at which you may start learing the weaknesses of a new school. 5 Exp per Swordsman knack. Exploit weakness must be taken last (you must understand before you can undo). + 1 month of practice (mostly "off-camera") as your character learns enough to start learning the knack. Then you must join the Swordsman Guild 5 Exp (waived if you are already a member) + Roleplaying your joining up, with dueling tests and entry fees (around 500G). Finally you learn the first tricks and techniques of your new swordsman school. 10 Exp. + 1 month of practice (mostly "off-camera") as your character gains the apprentice ability This creates a fair range in the number of Exp that might be required. A complete newbie might need 55 experience points. A character designed towards joining a school (has both skills and bought swordsman as a membership) would need only thirty, and a swordsman from a similar school might need only 20-25.
