The determining factors of ships crews are size of the ship, the number and type of sails, number of cannons and purpose of the vessel. Take the length of the ship [L] multiply by the number of sails [S] divided by 10 to get the minimum number of people for a full crew...just to sail the ship. If the ship has cannons and it's purpose is fighting another ship then Add the number of cannon [C] multipied by 2,3, or 4 depending on the cannon's size [Z] (small <8pd medium 8/12pd and large 18+pd) So crew size= [(LS)/10]+CZ This is a rough/quick figure that you may want to adjust according to the mission. This doesn't take into account marines/pirate brutes.
